The Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations, workflow, performance, ensuring adequate staffing, and overall management of the Transportation Department. The Supervisor will work closely with the Director of Transportation. They will play a lead role with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, and assisting with team projects. Represents and maintains department operations in the absence of the director. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides overall daily supervision and direction of Transportation functions. Carries out and/or recommends personnel action of Transportation Dept. employees. Updates personnel and unit work schedules. Completes designated work schedules as needed. Coordinates and assigns vehicle usage and movement of patient and materials between Christiana Care Facilities and other locations. Maintains operations and attends meetings in Directors absence. Confers regularly with Public Safety. Acts as liaison between employees and Director. Oversees operations to ensure conformance with Christiana Care Policies & Procedures. Captures, organizes, and manipulates data in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and create customized reports. (shuttle, fuel, files, overtime, patient moves, activity and unit schedules etc.) Responsible for ordering Transportation inventory including office and cleaning supplies, uniforms, and other items as needed. Directs warehouse operations as needed. Ensures overall compliance with Christiana Care and Department safety policies and other Christiana Care policies and procedures. P/U vehicles, supplies, parts, and invoices at vendors. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to director, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Maintaining drivers' files for DOT compliance Provides staff with ongoing training and development as required. Develops, monitor, and implements projects designed to improve group efficiency, communication, and patient satisfaction. Schedules work to meet deadlines: establish priorities; determine efficient ways to organize tasks. Responsible for ordering Transportation inventory including office and cleaning supplies, uniforms, and other items as needed. Performs other related duties as required. SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS: Vehicle operators from Transportation, and other departments who operate Christiana Care vehicles, Transportation Manager, and other mechanics. DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS : CDL Couriers and Automotive Technicians DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Director of Transportation and Campus Operating Officer (Wilmington) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : High school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred. Fleet vehicle mechanic supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS : Knowledge of current state and federal laws pertaining to the daily operations of vehicles and drivers of the Transportation department. Knowledge of Christiana Care policies and procedures. Knowledge of department scheduling and priorities in order to maintain manpower that will assure job completion and customer satisfaction. Knowledge of manufacturer's and Christiana Care procedures for preventative vehicle maintenance and repairs. Knowledge of all safety procedures associated with vehicle repair. Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and techniques. Ability to multi-task and adapt well to change. Ability to use tact, judgement, and diplomacy. Ability to be very agile and have a great deal of ambidextrous manual dexterity. Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Ability to use battery testers, welder, electric and oxygen acetylene outfit, vacuum and pressure testers, hydraulic and air conditioning tester and recharger, wheel balancer and tire changer recommended. Ability to supervise others and manage projects in an organized, effective, and efficient manner. Skill in operating automotive mechanics hand tools, air and electric impact guns, shop cranes, jack stands, air and hydraulic jacks, ignition scope. Skill in defensive driving and screening employees for defensive driving skills. Skill in oral and written communication. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : CDL license with a Passenger endorsement recommended. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Lifting, pushing, and pulling of heavy objects at various intervals. WORKING CONDITIONS : All indoor and outdoor areas in and around vehicles, depending on need for repair.
