Do it here. What youll be doing... The Open Source Program Office
is seeking for a Principal Engineer / Open Source Data Architect to
play a critical role that interacts with development teams across
the company with the goal of driving the analysis and tracking of
open source component use. You will engage with teams across the
enterprise to standardize, connect, and harmonize the existing
approaches for tracking open source components and drive the
development and implementation of meaningful metrics. You will work
closely with your peers in the Open Source Program Office who are
driving the secure supply chain and component viability efforts,
focused on tooling, tracking, and metrics. You will be responsible
for the overall prioritization of efforts regarding the full
breadth of components in use across Verizon, including
understanding, documenting, and highlighting the necessary
trade-offs and proposing effective solutions to improve the
security and compliance of our open source environments. You will
be part of a cross-group virtual team focused on engineering
innovative, strategic, and long-term solutions that align with (and
often expand) Verizon enterprise architecture standards. You will
work collaboratively with all stakeholders to establish and
maintain technical leadership within the enterprise technology
teams. You will also work closely with your peers on implementing
policies and establishing best practices for the use of open source
software components in all stages of the development lifecycle.
Additionally, you will mentor and coach engineers at all levels
across the organization to better understand the existing industry
standard processes and policies around open source use.
- Analyzing the various efforts on open source component tracking
across the enterprise.
- Acting as the driving force behind the harmonization and
integration of those efforts.
- Ensuring complete coverage across all parts of the business,
focusing on prioritizing the target efforts appropriately.
- Maintaining and promoting best practices around use of and
contribution to third party open source projects.
- Identifying key components and processes to improve the overall
maintainability, security, and compliance of the Verizon open
source supply chain.
- Providing mentorship and coaching in order to establish best
practices for component maintainability and upgradability.
- Working as part of a broader effort to establish and review
viability criteria for open source components (based on the OpenSSF
framework, among others).
- Working with the OSPO leadership on the overall open source
related strategies. Where youll be working... This is a
work-from-home role performed almost exclusively from your home
office with occasional in-person meetings and training. What were
looking for... Youll need to have:
- Bachelors degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in data science, analytics, and common tools in this
field.
- Experience in engaging with and contributing to open source
projects.
- Experience in doing code review and giving constructive
feedback to other developers.
- Experience in developing metrics out of data from a variety of
backend services. Even better if you have one or more of the
following:
- Bachelors / Masters degree in Computer Science, Software
Engineering, or a related field
- Experience in giving or participating in public presentations
and participation in open source events.
- Experience in working on use of open source components in
enterprise environments.
- Experience in software development practices in one or more
programming languages.
- Experience in working databases, REST APIs, and similar
automated data services.
- Experience in working with workflow solutions like ServiceNow,
Jira, or similar.
- Experience in Python or other tooling languages.
- Experience in working with open source security (and software
security in general).
- Experience in articulating the business drives and
architectural approach/trade-offs during discussions for
solution.
- Experience in facilitating group meetings/discussions. If
