Position Summary:

The HR Business Partner reports to the Director of Employee and Labor Relations and facilitates the alignment of NJIT's business goals and objectives with HR strategies and best practices for management and employees in designated academic and administrative units. The incumbent collaborates with all of the HR centers of excellence to deliver value-added service to management and employees that supports NJIT's goals, vision, and mission. The HR Business Partner enhances value to the business by being proactive, driven by a sense of urgency and striving for continuous improvement. The incumbent advises managers and employees on new and ongoing HR programs and initiatives and serves as the face of HR for employee interactions. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining an effective level of business literacy about the academic/administrative unit's goals, objectives, financial position, culture, challenges, opportunities and its successes.

Essential Functions:

HR Business Partner to academic and/or administrative units: Proactively assesses our organizational needs and implement human capital solutions in a thoughtful way within a fast-paced environment, demonstrating and understanding of client's business needs and being a thought leader on people and organizational topics. Thinks strategically, uses data to guide direction, is comfortable challenging business leaders, and reinvents how work is done; Analyzes trends and metrics in collaboration with Director of Employee and Labor Relations and other HR colleagues to develop/design solutions, programs and policies; Provides day-to-day performance management and/or general HR guidance to managers (i.e. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, etc.) in consultation with other HR centers of excellence, as needed; Proactively collaborates with leaders to identify staffing issues, talent needs and trends. Provides guidance to hiring managers around effective decision making strategies pertaining to internal versus external selection processes; Provides continuous support to management to facilitate talent development, performance management programs, and agency succession recommendations while working to improve organizational effectiveness, talent quality and performance; Provides guidance and input on academic/administrative unit reorganizations, workforce planning, and succession planning under the direction of the Director of Employee and Labor Relations; Serves as project manager on initiatives related to HR strategy implementation, as assigned; Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention; and Collaborates with Employee and Labor Relations team members to manage and resolve complex manager employee relations issues and investigations, as needed.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in human resources management or related field plus a minimum of five years of experience in an HR business partner and/or generalist capacity with demonstrated experience and knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including compensation, organizational development, employee and labor relations, EEO/diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment and labor laws. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in MS Office Suites. At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

SHRM-SCP/SPHR certification preferred. Prior experience in higher education, unionized setting.
