Eric Hetherington, Executive Director of Sponsored Research
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) seeks a dynamic
individual to serve as its director of research for the Ying Wu
College of Computing (YWCC). The director of research?YWCC reports
to the executive director in the Office of Research as a member of
the sponsored research administration team and reports to the YWCC
associate dean for research regarding day?to?day responsibilities
while working closely with the college faculty. The director will
deal with all non?scientific aspects of sponsored research
activities in the college.The director's main function will be to
handle all the administrative and financial aspects of thesponsored
research process: proposal preparation, budget creation, account
management, report preparation, and interaction with other relevant
departments at NJIT.
Main responsibilities:1. Work with faculty and research staff in
YWCC on providing:?Pre?award support in creating project budgets.
Help with budget development, including compliance with sponsor,
NJIT and YWCC budgetary guidelines?Support in the proposal
submission process, including managing the college's use of
Streamlyne, our online proposal submission and approval
system.?Shepherding submissions through the approval process in a
timely fashion. ?Help faculty members review proposals with respect
to RFP and sponsor guidelines.?Post?award support in managing the
finances and accounts of YWCC sponsored projects.?Support in the
administrative aspects of project reporting.?Assistance in
high?level integrated proposal writing and reviewing.?Assistance in
identifying government/foundation/corporate funding
opportunities.2. Serve as staff liaison between the university's
central Office of Research and the YWCC Dean Office.3. Serve as
staff liaison between YWCC Dean Office with theNew Jersey
Innovation Institute for matters related to sponsored research.4.
Serve on YWCC, NJIT and external committees and task forces focused
on research administration, as assigned.5. Collect and process
information and prepare documents and presentations on research
administration practices in other organizations to assist in
measuring, quantifying andimproving YWCC's practices.6. Participate
in YWCC research planning; maintain and helpupdate YWCC and NJIT
research related planning documents?Help develop and monitor YWCC
guidelines on research activities and proposals, including
budgetary guidelines.?Collect, maintain, and process data on YWCC
and relevantresearch in other universities, including statistics
onresearch needs and available funding in YWCC's fields
ofinterest.?Prepare, present (and help others in YWCC prepare
andpresent) summaries, analyses and documents that identifyresearch
trends and opportunities.

1.A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.2.At least four years
of experience in sponsored research administration, research
finance, or similar services in a relevant industry. 3.Familiarity
with the workings, procedures and online systems of the major
federal funding agencies, including NSF, NIH, DARPA, DoE, DoD.4.
Capable of working with tight deadlines.5. Excellent skills to work
collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations.6.
Mastery of basic office software (word processing,spreadsheet
applications, presentations and communication).7. Excellent written
and verbal communication skills andattention to detail as
demonstrated by application materials.
?A graduate degree, preferably in a science related to YWCC
research areas or business administration.?Experience working in a
university setting, particularly with academic departments and
sponsored research.?Certification in Research Administration (CRA,
CPRA, CFRA or similar)?Creative out?of?the?box thinker.?Responsive,
friendly, outgoing and service?oriented.
