Why this role is exciting Build the backbone of operations. You will set up and support the business-critical servers, shared storage, networks, and on-prem databases that keep production, artwork management, and internal tools running smoothly every day. Many of these systems are being implemented for the first time, giving you the chance to establish clean foundations and influence best practices from day one. Career development: Youll join a collaborative, cross-functional team where your input is valued and your professional growth is actively supported. Be part of our transformation: This is a foundational role as Vanguard ID evolves into a more software- and data-driven company. The infrastructure you design and support will directly shape our technical direction, enable new digital products, and position Vanguard ID for scalable growth in new markets and customer segments. If youre passionate about building robust digital solutions and want to be a foundational part of Vanguard IDs transformation, we encourage you to apply! Key Responsibilities Core IT Systems & Infrastructure : Maintain reliable, secure, and scalable internal IT systems that support day-to-day operations, production, and collaboration across the company. Set up, configure, and maintain business-critical servers for production and internal applications, including OS configuration, user access, patching, and monitoring. Design, deploy, and maintain network-attached storage and shared file systems, including replacing the legacy shared file system with a more scalable solution. Set up and maintain secure artwork intake systems (SFTP or cloud-based file storage) for receiving, organizing, and protecting customer artwork files. Configure and maintain routers, firewalls, and networks, including reviewing firewall logs, maintaining a Tailscale network, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Support and contribute to IT initiatives such as Google Workspace migration, user provisioning, identity and password management, and access controls. Host and maintain company websites and related infrastructure. Handle day-to-day IT support issues, including account management, password resets, basic device support, and troubleshooting networked systems. DevOps & Application Infrastructure : Own and support the infrastructure, environments, and deployment workflows that power Vanguard IDs software systems, including the online ordering platform and systems tools. Participate in the implementation and ongoing support of the online ordering system from a DevOps perspective, including environment setup, deployment pipelines, infrastructure configuration, and operational monitoring. Implement and manage virtualization platforms (e.g., Proxmox, VMware, or similar) to run production containers and virtual machines supporting internal and customer-facing applications. Implement and support containerized functions that process artwork and operational data (e.g., barcode image transformations and related workflows) in partnership with a full-stack developer. Support infrastructure and workflows related to software-driven data migrations, including database migrations, file system transitions, and validation of data integrity during system changes. Support and maintain on-premise PostgreSQL database infrastructure, including backups, monitoring, access controls, and secure replication or cloud-based disaster recovery. Hardware Production Systems : Bridge software systems with physical production environments, supporting RFID, barcode, and magnetic stripe technologies through close interaction with machines, devices, and automation workflows. Collaborate on software systems that interface with production hardware - including RFID printers, barcode scanners, magnetic stripe encoders, sensors, and custom mechanical equipment - to support and enhance encoding workflows. Ensure reliable communication between software systems and devices, including read/write validation, duplicate prevention, scan accuracy, and production data integrity. Support and enhance RFID, barcode, and magnetic stripe encoding processes used in manufacturing and fulfillment environments. Contribute to the design, integration, testing, and support of new custom machinery used in RFID and encoding operations, working across both vendor-supplied solutions and internally developed equipment. Work across both business logic and physical systems, helping translate software requirements into reliable, repeatable production workflows. Document infrastructure, hardware integrations, configurations, and standard operating procedures to ensure repeatability, scalability, and operational resilience. Qualifications 12 years of hands-on experience in systems administration, DevOps, IT infrastructure, or a closely related technical role. Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows server administration, including basic networking, users/groups, and system services. Exposure to virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or similar). Basic understanding of containers (e.g., Docker) and how they are deployed and managed. Foundational knowledge of databases, PostgreSQL, and ports, authentication, and backups. Experience with or interest in file storage (NAS/SAN or cloud storage) and SFTP. Comfortable working with routers, firewalls, and VPN-like solutions. Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to handle both strategic projects and day-to-day IT issues. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with developers, operations, and leadership. What We Value Ownership mentality and comfort taking end-to-end responsibility for systems, from setup through maintenance. Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, frameworks, and infrastructure patterns. Practical problem-solving and the ability to prioritize in a production-focused environment.
