results-oriented leader to join our team in Newark, NJ!The ideal
candidate has demonstrated experience in motivating and coaching
teams to meet production and company goals. As a Shift Supervisor,
you will prioritize the safety and well-being of your team members
and efficient operation of our Waste-to-Energy Power Plant.
Additionally, you will continuously monitor and control all plant
systems; respond to alarms, by taking appropriate corrective
actions; and execute approved plant shutdown and start-up
procedures to assure that the plant meets its safety, environmental
and operational commitments. This position reports directly to the
Operations Manager.Schedule:Rotating 12-hour shift schedule that
alternates between days and nights and work about every other
weekend, including holidays, outage support, and vacation
coverage.Responsibilities:--- Assist Operations Manager with
overseeing all areas of plant operations and carrying out
supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Covanta's
policies and applicable laws (i.e., appraising performance;
rewarding and coaching employee performance; addressing complaints,
resolving problems, etc.)--- Ensure availability of qualified
candidates to cover shift by managing shift schedule--- Direct the
functional activities of the operators and review, prioritize and
direct the daily work activities for the shift--- Train plant
personnel to effectively and efficiently handle and meet daily
operational needs in a safe manner--- Ensure the facility's
readiness to meet emergency or unusual circumstances in a safe and
productive manner--- Mange and update SOP's, P&ID's, training
programs and implementing new processes for data collection and
tracking utilizing the new technologies available--- Provide relief
for the Shift Supervisors during short term absence as required and
assist with vacation coverage as needed--- Prioritizing requests
for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other
purposes and for ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and
tagged in accordance with facility procedures--- Assist the
Facility Safety Coordinator with administering the safety program,
including presenting training in their absence--- Participating in
meetings and trainings with the Shift Supervisors and facility
management staff--- Standing in for the Operations Manager in
his/her absence--- Serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of
the Facility/Department Managers--- Perform other duties as
directed by the Operations Manager/Plant
ManagementQualifications:--- HS/GED diploma required--- N.J. First
Class (Red Seal) Engineers License must be able to become site
specific certified within 6 months of hire--- ASME QRO Site
Specific Operator Certification must be able to become site
specific certified within 6 months of hire--- Broad background in
plant operations, including at least 3 years' experience in power
or resource recovery plant operations required--- Demonstrated
hands-on supervisory experience working with high performing teams,
high pressure boilers and electric generation equipment required---
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general administrative
periodicals, technical procedures and regulations--- Ability to
write reports and correspondence as well as effectively present
information and respond to questions from groups of managers and
subordinates in English--- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and
divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, decimals, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw
and interpret graphs--- Ability to take appropriate safe action on
his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to
personnel during emergencies or unusual situations--- Ability to
motivate employees and maintain high morale--- Ability to Work near
moving machinery as well as noisy and dusty environments; must be
able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) to
include a negative pressure respirator in accordance with OSHA
Regulation 29 CFR 1910.134--- Ability to climb ladders and
structures; must be able to tolerate heights--- Ability to
frequently stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch,
crawl and reach--- Specific vision ability required by this job
included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus--- The
ability to manage operations crew personnel; work in closed
quarters and confined spaces; climb ladders and structures; lift
and carry up to 50 pounds; and tolerate heights and high
