We are seeking a talented and ambitious Advanced Practice Nurse to join our exceptional team, that will serve as an expert clinical practitioner and member of the research team for our client. This position will provide research support, clinical trial management and clinical care, consultation, education and patient care management and expertise. Responsibilities: Study Participants Management Manages, coordinates, and assumes responsibility for activities of assigned aspects of specific research protocols to ensure safe and competent care and effective protocol management. Performs comprehensive initial and episodic health histories and physical exams; to identify existing or potential health problems. Brings abnormalities to the attention of the Principal Investigator. Initiates appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic, medical, and nursing actions in conjunction with the physician and as outlined in the research protocol. Monitors study participants to ensure that the research protocol is being followed. Provides follow-up care including acute and routine examinations. Assesses progress, identify problems, initiate preventive measures, recognize emergent problems, initiate proper care in collaboration with physician. Monitors and adjusts patients--- medication according to research protocol or medical plan of care including adequate pain control. Implements nutritional therapies, as appropriate. Triages patient problem calls in office, which requires medical attention Monday through Friday. Provides patient and family counseling and reassurance regarding psychological and or psychosocial issues. Initiates proper referrals to private or community agencies. Supports the research mission by collaborating with the research nurse. Identifies and screens patients for appropriate eligibility for protocol study participation and aids in the accumulation and recording of data regarding patients on protocols. Professional Practice/Development: Assists with the implementation of research protocols and develops study specific templates/documentation. Demonstrates in depth oncology specific, as well as general medical-surgical knowledge base. Provides rational explanation for clinical decisions made or actions taken Serves as a ---role model--- in advanced practice oncology nursing. Effective communication skills. Communicates expertise in nursing practice through presentation and publication process. Serves as a preceptor for inexperienced Nurse Practitioners. Required Skills: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of a Masters--- Degree required. Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nursing with prescriptive authority in the State of New Jersey. Certified as a Nurse Practitioner with an Oncology Specialization required. If an Oncology Specialization is not present, the Oncology Specialization must be obtained within 1 year of employment. At least two (2) years of nursing experience in the Oncology specialty area in a hospital or clinic setting, preferably in an Advanced Practice role. Clinical research experience preferred. American Heart Association: Basic Cardiac Life Support. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
