of the nation's leading public polytechnic universities, invites
applications for the newly-created position of Associate Vice
President of Alumni Engagement and Giving (AVP-AE&G).Reporting
to the Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations, and
exercising a high degree of strategic thinking, creativity, and
independence, the AVP-AE&G is responsible for integrating,
managing, providing strategic direction to, and establishing short-
and long-term goals for NJIT's alumni engagement and annual giving
efforts. They will lead and oversee programs, events, and services
that meaningfully engage alumni, volunteers, donors, students, and
other external constituents with one another and with the
university, and inspire them to support NJIT through increasingly
generous investments of their time, talent, and treasure.The
AVP-AE&G must be an effective and enthusiastic leader who
excels at building and sustaining strong external and internal
relationships, is responsive to environmental challenges, industry
trends, and university needs, and can strategically drive
broad-based engagement and philanthropic efforts. The AVP-AE&G
serves as a member of the Development & Alumni Relations office's
senior leadership team and will be expected to work closely and
collaboratively with the officers and board of the NJIT Alumni
Association, other volunteer leaders, the President of the
university, the Deans of NJIT's six colleges, Development & Alumni
Relations colleagues, and other constituents in articulating and
implementing policy, plans, goals, and activities related to alumni
engagement and annual giving.Essential Functions:
- Develop, lead, and execute a plan for fully integrating and
augmenting NJIT's alumni engagement and annual giving efforts.
- Provide leadership, management, and strategic guidance to
NJIT's Alumni Relations and Annual Giving teams.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Alumni
Relations and the Executive Director of Annual Giving to design,
implement, and maintain programs, events, and services for alumni,
students, and friends that increase their engagement, both with one
another andwith the university, and generates positive, sustained
relationships that lead to increased philanthropic investments in
NJIT.
- Serve as the Development & Alumni Relations office's primary
liaison to the NJIT Alumni Association; provide leadership in all
Alumni Association activities and overall management of volunteer
recruitment, training, and stewardship of Alumni Association
officers and board members; and work closely with officers and
board members to expand and enhance the organization's role in
engaging all alumni in the life and future of their alma
mater.
- Oversee the creation of volunteer structures, as necessary, to
increase annual giving participation.
- Effectively advocate for and cultivate productive, positive
relationships between and among students, alumni, volunteers,
donors, and other external constituents.
- Foster a culture of engagement, pride, and philanthropy among
students, alumni, volunteers, donors, and other external
constituents.
- Oversee the creation of an effective communications and
marketing strategy for alumni engagement and annual giving to
ensure the efficient delivery of programs, events, and
services.
- Remain current with industry trends, changes, and innovations
in all areas of alumni engagement and annual giving; evaluate and
assess existing programs and activities based upon cost,
effectiveness, and outcomes; and, as appropriate, research and
recommend new programs, activities, and services to engage
students, alumni, volunteers, donors, and other external
constituents.
- Assume overall responsibility for meeting goals, objectives,
and other key performance indicators for alumni engagement and
annual giving;
- Model and reinforce a sophisticated, non-territorial approach
to alumni-/external constituent-centric engagement and philanthropy
that encourages teamwork, flexibility, and responsiveness.
- Guide and mentor Development & Alumni Relations staff members
on best-practice activities, strategies, programs, and priorities
related to alumni relations and annual giving; build trust-based,
positive, and authentic working relationships with them, follow
university and industry best practices for performance management,
and model desired behaviors.
- Serve as an active member of the senior leadership team of the
Development & Alumni Relations team.Prerequisite Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience
in the advancement field, preferably in a higher education setting,
including a documented record of success in leading alumni
relations and/or annual giving programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles, and
practices of constituent relations and fundraising for higher
education, along with a commitment to philanthropy as a change
agent for the fulfillment of institutional mission and vision.
- Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to alumni,
volunteers, donors, and other external constituents as well as
internal partners.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, lead, and inspire others while
facilitating collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate
comprehensive programs for alumni relations and/or annual giving,
establishing goals and objectives that translate into annual
operating plans.
- Exceptional writing, speaking, interpersonal, and analytical
skills.
- Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to: establish and
maintain good working relationships with colleagues; facilitate
multiple projects, make decisions, and meet deadlines; manage and
motivate volunteers effectively and efficiently; and identify
problems and develop creative, timely, and efficient
solutions.
- Position involves travel as well as ability to work evenings
and weekends.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience
prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate
to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of
education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for
