Job Description:
The Program Director is responsible for overseeing the planning,
development, implementation, and evaluation of programs for youth
between the ages of 5 and 18 within a designated Club. Program
responsibility supports our priority outcome areas of Academic
Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship. The
Program Director also provides leadership and supervision to
assigned program and volunteer staff. This position oversees BGCN's
after-school program, full-day programs, and Summer
Enrichment.ResponsibilitiesSupervision/Operations

- Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate
standards of program, that program areas are safe, well-ventilated,
and well-lit, and that club equipment is maintained in good working
condition. Ensure all staff are fulfilling duties as described in
their job description.
- Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and
staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal. Identify
and support training and development opportunities for assigned
volunteers and staff.
- Oversee proper recordkeeping and reporting including activities
and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures,
notable achievements, and any problems/issues. Submit all reports
on a timely basis using correct and complete data.
- Responsible for Club site remaining clean, neat, organized and
in good repair. Report to Corps Officer when repairs are
needed.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of Club equipment quarterly
and maintain accurate records on a regular basis.
- Maintain accurate record of staff payroll timesheets and
ensuring all documents are signed and accurate. Provides bi-weekly
payroll information to Corps Officers.
- Control Clubhouse program and activity expenditures within
approved budget.
- Adhere to all Child Care Licensing requirements and
policies/procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and
elsewhere.
- Follow, implement, and enforce all COVID-19 guidelines and
organizational policies related to COVID-19.
- Plan and implement member retention and recruitment
activities
- Oversee statistical information collection and submission to
Community Food Bank.
- Provide monthly statistical information to Corps Officers.
Monthly reports must reflect all activities, attendance, and
participation.
- Complete any required or mandated trainings and/or professional
development.
- May be required to drive Club van periodically.Programming
- Oversee the implementation and delivery of operations,
programs, services, and activities that facilitate achievement of
youth development. Establish Clubhouse program objectives
consistent with organizational goals and mission.
- Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety
of program areas/activities and receive instruction and
constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
- Learn & leverage BGCA programming.
- Assist in development of Outcome Measurements and Indicators
for Club programming.
- Deliver programming that satisfies grant requirements.
- Research and develop curriculum with pre- and post- outcome
assessments.
- Implement strategic goals of the organization.
- Oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of
the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the
implementation of other unit activities as necessary. Works with
the staff to plan and carry out these special events.
- Work actively with Corps Officers to develop a strong
relationship between the Corps and the Boys and Girls club staff
and families.
- Oversee Summer Program planning and
implementation.Communications
- Review and respond to emails, voicemail, and other forms of
communication within twenty-four (24) business hours.
- Communicate any potential issue or concern regularly with
supervisor or administrative staff regarding personnel, parent,
peer, partners, or Club members.
- Engage parents regarding opportunities and expectations of club
members, as well as general club participation. Consult with
parents concerning member and branch issues. Promote and provide
information to prospective families for enrollment. Communicate
changes with staff and families regarding policies and
procedures.
- Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily
schedule, announcements of upcoming events, and the dissemination
of timely information for the development of advertising and
promotion through mailings, fliers, and media releases.
- Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for
club programs, services, and activities.
- Maintain close contact with assigned staff to provide technical
assistance in matters of programming and operations; interact
regularly with Corps Officers and Boys and Girls club director at
Newark Area Services
- Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving
organizations, members, parents, families, and community
organizations. Attend meetings and participates in phone/email
exchange.
- Other duties as assigned.Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years' work experience in a licensed
childcare setting & non-profit agency operations management
preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and
education.
- BA in Education, Child Development or related field
preferred.
- Four (4) years' minimum experience in asupervisory capacity for
childcare/recreational programs preferred.
- Two (2) years' minimum experience working with school-aged
children, especially in Boys & Girls Club after
school/extracurricular programs, strongly preferred.
- Proficient in database management, Excel, Word, Outlook, and
presentations.
- Understanding of Program for Parents and experience in revenue
tracking.
- CPR Certified/First Aid - preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid NJ Driver's license and clean driving record. Will need
to be approved to drive Salvation Army vehicles.
