Position Summary:
The J. Robert and
Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design (HCAD) at the
New
Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a
full-time
tenure-track or tenured appointment in Architectural Design at the
rank of
Assistant or Associate Professor. The appointment is within the
School of
Architecture at HCAD.
NJIT is a
top-tier research university, having achieved R1 status by the
Carnegie
Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning. HCAD at NJIT is
one of the
largest architecture schools in the United States and is
conveniently located
in the New York metropolitan region. Our college provides faculty
and
students with exciting opportunities for teaching, scholarship,
research, and
service. We offer graduate (Master and PhD) and undergraduate
degrees in
architecture, urban design, interior, industrial, and digital
design. HCAD is
one of six colleges and schools in a public polytechnic university
that
attracts a diversity of faculty and students, that encourages
collaboration across
disciplines.
Essential Functions:
- Teach Architectural design studios and lecture and/or seminar
courses to undergraduate and graduate students within the New
Jersey School of Architecture.
- Engage in scholarly activities such as publishing papers and/or
books, presenting work at conferences, and designing and/or
building peer-recognized work.
- Successful candidates will be expected to participate in service
activities within HCAD and NJIT, as well within their profession
and/or discipline. A commitment to educational excellence in a
public university with a diverse student body is expected.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Educator and architectural designer background.
- A record of design excellence in architectural practice and
teaching in relationship with the built environment, with
preference given to those who have abilities in teaching
architecture as both a material and cultural practice, and who have
a demonstrated commitment to building a more sustainable and
inclusive built environment.
- Hold a professional architecture degree; those with licenses to
practice architecture are preferred; PhDs in architecture,
urbanism, or a related field are welcome.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience
prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate
to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of
education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for
success in the position.
