Job Description:
CymaBay Therapeutics, Inc. is a publicly traded, clinical-stage
biopharmaceutical company based in Newark, California, focused on
developing therapies for liver and other chronic diseases with high
unmet medical need. -We are looking for new team members to join
our expanding organization.
Summary: We are seeking a qualified, self-motivated, experienced
Manager, R&D Accounting. This position will help to prepare,
review, streamline, and/or maintain accounting records of clinical
trial related studies and the scope of the development cycle will
range from pre-clinical through pre-commercialization launch. - In
addition, this position will ensure the preparation and maintenance
of journal entries, account reconciliations, and other accounting
records, and shall drive the completion of closing procedures for
monthly and quarterly financial reports. This position interacts
with finance personnel, external auditors, accounting consultants,
department managers, and other stakeholders.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:
Manage and proactively drive the Pre-Clinical, Chemistry,
Manufacturing & Controls (CMC), Clinical, and Research &
Development (R&D) expense month end-close cycle to ensure
timely and accurate completion of financial reporting as a public
company.
Drive the preparation of pre-Clinical and clinical trial-related
accrual and prepayment entries and reconciliations. Review relevant
contracts, prepare, and calculate the monthly CRO, CMC and Clinical
Service Providers' contract accruals.
Review applicable CRO, CMO and other vendor contracts and monthly
activities, work closely with Pre-Clinical and Clinical Operations,
and proactively interact with vendors to gather and analyze
relevant information and supporting documentation. -
Evaluate and analyze Pre-Clinical and Clinical study trends and to
identify key expense drivers to enhance accuracy and provide
insights to management and business partners.
Collaborate with Project Management team to track enrollment
assumptions, clinical study budgets/forecasts to ensure financial
estimate/spend harmonize with project timelines and actual
spends.
Review, compile and maintain pre-clinical and clinical trial
accounting records including R&D expenses, study enrollment,
work completed to date, current and estimated budget spend, study
budget projections for existing and new studies, etc.
Support Quarterly Variance Analysis process for CROs,
preclinical/clinical Service Providers' contracts.
Support CROs and Service Providers' financial-related matter/issues
including invoice issues and coding of invoices as needed.
Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 internal control policies
and procedures, execute and document internal controls timely and
accurately, and collaborate to revise and enhance internal control
policies and procedures as needed.
Coordinate with external auditors and ensure support and
information requests are provided timely for quarterly reviews and
annual financial audits.
Collaborate with stakeholders as necessary to support the
implementation of new accounting systems and technologies to
support corporate growth and efficiency. Assess, streamline, and
improve operational accounting policies and procedures to ensure
efficiency and cost effectiveness. -
Collaborate, communicate concisely, and work cross-functionally
with finance personnel, department managers, auditors, accounting
consultants, and other stakeholders as necessary.
Assist with other projects and process improvement initiatives as
necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Must have experience handling large scale clinical trials and CMC
related contract and accounting work in public biopharma
companies.
Ability to multi-task and effectively manage to achieve critical
deadlines.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Self-starter, strong work ethic, able to work independently with
minimal supervision.
Desire to continuously improve finance processes, systems, and
controls.
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal
skills
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Late development stage, or commercial Biotech experience and Net
Suite a plus
Auditing/ CPA training / certification a plus
The anticipated salary range for Manager, R&D Accounting
candidates who will work in Newark, California is $135,000 -
$150,000. - The final salary offered to a successful candidate will
be dependent on several factors that may include but are not
limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type
and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. -
CymaBay is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not
reflect positions that work in other states.
