Responsibilities The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN is the primary nursing resource and clinical expert in the care of the pre-transplant candidate. The Pre-liver APN has responsibility for the clinical case management of adult patients from the time of waitlisting until transplant. This responsibility involves coordination of the interdisciplinary medical care delivery system under the direction of the Medical Director. The Pre-liver transplant APN functions as the liaison between the transplant team and the patient, family, medical staff, referring physicians, and insurance companies. Qualifications A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required. Completion of an educational program which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master's degree in nursing and eligible for certification by a national certifying body. A minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience, plus two (2) years of abdominal transplant experience and current BLS certification are required. Certification as clinical transplant coordinator, preferred. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving are essential. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform in an expanded nursing role by close collaboration with physicians and ability to work independently following protocols.
